Each Wednesday and Saturday, we pray a new Scripture in Mark. This week we have focused on Mark 7:1-20. It is a Scripture that has tugged on my heart because it speaks to the purpose of tradition. As a Zionite, tradition is ev'rything! However, the Bible basically says that tradition is nothing (when the whole purpose is MEANINGLESS APPEARANCE).
Today is a new day in a different time. No longer can we examine the state of someone's intentions in accordance with societal and cultural norms. WE ARE NOT IN KANSAS ANYMORE. We must attune our spirits to understanding our own motives and the content of Jesus' character. Basically, what comes out a a person's heart.
PHARISEES: Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food with defiled hands?
JESUS (SMH): They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.
ALSO, JESUS: You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.
JESUS, AGAIN: You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions!
JESUS, ONE MORE TIME FOR THE WIN: Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.
